As you may be aware, the redeveloped long yard was a significant investment for the Brookfield community. Discussions have recently taken place around what are suitable uses of the sand arena to ensure its long-term sustainability.
The summary of suitable uses (outside of horse and rodeo events) agreed at the meeting between the Trust, Show Society and Pony Club, are highlighted below:
- It is OK for kids to play on the Arena i.e. running, playing touch footy etc;
- It is NOT OK to dig holes, make sand castles, take any food or drink onto the arena;
Signage will be placed around the sand arena at major gatherings at the showgrounds in relation to what are suitable and unsuitable activities.
We ask that parents make their children aware of the rules and keep an eye on them when at the showground. Parents should also be aware of the health concerns associated with the arena, given that the arena is heavily used by horses and cattle.
Thank you for your understanding and co-operation.
